Hi, Iโ€™m Karsten ๐Ÿ‘‹

I grew up in Juneau, Alaska and recently graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I like working at the intersection of mechanical systems, software, and hands-on fabrication.

A lot of my projects focus on:

  • Alaska and energy โ€“ from 3D-printed terrain maps and heat-pump repairs to thinking about how communities can move away from diesel.
  • Motion and control โ€“ stepper-driven film scanners, custom mechanisms, and Arduino projects.
  • Self-hosting and tooling โ€“ building infrastructure that makes it easier to explore data, run services for friends and family, and prototype ideas.

Iโ€™ve passed the FE exam and Iโ€™m interested in roles that blend field work, problem-solving, and a clear path toward PE licensure. I like being the person who will crawl under the equipment, open the panel, and figure out whatโ€™s actually going on.

Outside of engineering, I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, tinkering with little gadgets, and finding new ways to make everyday life a bit more interesting and efficient.
