Hi, I’m Karsten 👋
I grew up in Juneau, Alaska and recently graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I like working at the intersection of mechanical systems, software, and hands-on fabrication.
A lot of my projects focus on:
- Alaska and energy – from 3D-printed terrain maps and heat-pump repairs to thinking about how communities can move away from diesel.
- Motion and control – stepper-driven film scanners, custom mechanisms, and Arduino projects.
- Self-hosting and tooling – building infrastructure that makes it easier to explore data, run services for friends and family, and prototype ideas.
I’ve passed the FE exam and I’m interested in roles that blend field work, problem-solving, and a clear path toward PE licensure. I like being the person who will crawl under the equipment, open the panel, and figure out what’s actually going on.
Outside of engineering, I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, tinkering with little gadgets, and finding new ways to make everyday life a bit more interesting and efficient.
